New Orleans’ 2013-2014 Season Will Include The Book of Mormon, Beauty and the Beast and More

Two young Mormons and a castle full of enchanted objects are heading to The Big Easy. New Orleans’ 2013-2014 Broadway season will include the blockbuster musical The Book of Mormon as well as Disney’s romantic musical Beauty and the Beast. The season lineup will also include Ghost the Musical, Sister Act, Memphis, War Horse and Rain: A Tribute to The Beatles. All shows will play the Saenger Theatre.

The Book of Mormon, winner of nine Tony Awards, will open on October 15, 2013 and close on October 27. Written by South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone and Avenue Q co-creator Robert Lopez, The Book of Mormon follows two young Mormon missionaries sent to Uganda, who soon discover their training did not quite prepare them for the world outside of Salt Lake City.

The romance of Ghost will touch a whole new generation as the story of the 1990 movie comes to the stage in a brand new musical. The story follows Sam and Molly, a young couple whose connection takes a shocking turn after Sam’s untimely death. Trapped between two worlds, Sam turns to a storefront psychic who helps him protect Molly and avenge his death. The musical spectacle will play from November 19, 2013 through November 24.

The funky nuns of Sister Act will make their New Orleans debut from December 17, 2013 through December 22. The musical comedy (based on the hit film) focuses on disco diva Deloris Van Cartier, who witnesses a crime and goes into hiding in a convent. Under the suspicious watch of Mother Superior, Deloris helps her new “sisters” find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own.

Beauty and the Beast will arrive from February 4, 2014 through February 9. Based on Disney's Academy Award-winning animated feature film, this family-friendly musical love story features the songs “Be Our Guest” and “Beauty and the Beast.”

Set in the turbulent south in the 1950s, Memphis is the rollicking story of Huey Calhoun, a white radio DJ whose love of good music transcends race lines and airwaves. A Tony winner for Best Musical, Memphis is a powerful story about fame and forbidden love. The musical opens on March 11, 2014 and closes on March 16.

War Horse, winner of five Tony Awards, will run from May 13, 2014 through May 18. Using extraordinary puppets, War Horse tells the story of young Albert and his beloved horse, Joey, who is sold to the cavalry and shipped to France at the outbreak of World War I. Albert, unable to forget Joey and still not old enough to enlist, embarks on a mission to find his horse and bring him home.

Rain will shower New Orleans with some of the biggest hits of The Beatles from January 17, 2014 through January 19. The concert event follows the career of the band from their landmark performances on The Ed Sullivan Show and at Shea Stadium through their final albums. The mood is set with original film footage from the 1960s, and over the course of show, the musicians who play John, Paul, George and Ringo evolve with their music, going from mop tops to bell bottoms and peace signs.
